About us

A Finnish idea, a Minnesota family.

NordicSol is Eric and Riina Koski, their eight kids, and a product they believed in enough to move a family for.

The short version

Eric sold the very first Lumon enclosures in North America.

In 2011, Eric and one colleague opened Lumon's first Canadian office in Toronto, two salesmen introducing a Finnish product nobody on this continent had heard of. Lumon had been building retractable glass walls since 1978, and in the Nordic countries a glazed porch is simply how you live with a real winter. It took a while to explain that here. Then it didn't. Lumon Canada grew past 120 people across multiple cities.

Eric and Riina both come from Finnish families of ten kids in Ontario. They met in northern Minnesota, and on Canadian Thanksgiving in 2020 they decided their next move: bring the product they knew best to the state they wanted to raise their family in. NordicSol is that decision.

The family

Ten people, a ranch, and a wood-fired sauna.

The Koskis live at Red Maple Ranch west of the Twin Cities with sugar maples, an orchard, ponds, chickens, two dogs, and thirteen beef cattle. Dinner is at the table every night, and each of the eight kids gets the floor to tell something about their day.

The cedar sauna out back is wood-fired, because some Finnish habits are not negotiable. Neither is the one NordicSol is built on: the belief that a porch should not sit empty for eight months a year.

When we come measure your porch, this is who shows up. A family business, our own crews, and a product we grew up with.
